As we make our journey towards Easter, the Church encourages us – through our Lenten
liturgies - to look forward eagerly to the celebration of the Paschal Mystery: source of new life and hope for the whole human family.
The first readings of these Sundays recall great events of the history that leads to God's final
achievement in the Paschal Mystery.
Luke's gospel, from which we are reading throughout this year, points to the outlook we should have as we
make our journey. Luke's gospel moves to a climax with the journey of Jesus to Jerusalem and all that awaits him there; and as he makes that journey Jesus gives his main teaching to this disciples
who accompany him - preparing them for the great drama that is to take place in the holy city.
